Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (Susanna Clarke)

The book in action
What a wonderful book! It is a huge brick of a book, you might even need two bricks to replicate its size, but that did not pose any problems. The story is very engaging, it is hard to put this thing down. I was reading it with a friend, and had to pace myself. Then I forgot reading in the middle of everyday everything. Then I found it again and kept reading. I can only describe it in one way: Magical.

This is a fantasy book. It is about magic. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell are both magicians, but very different ones. One is old and conservative, the other young and much more willing to experiment. The story is set in the early 19th century, during the Napoleonic wars.

Did you ever wonder how warfare would be different with magic? How magic would interact with the world as we know it? Then you should check this book out. Also, it has some love, it has a lot of drama, tons of magic, and a good dash of tragedy. It will make you laugh, cry, give you goosebumps all over, and it will have you reading as fast as you can to find out what happens next!
